Income Split (Finder, Minder, Grinder)

In order to track income based on the contributions of all parties involved you may want to utilize the income split (or finder, minder, grinder) tool. The term Finder, Minder, Grinder refers to the classic income split model of dividing income between those who find business, manage it, and work on it. This is by no means how you have to allocate your income.

Setting up Income split roles:

Select Admin>Billing>Income Split Roles. Your system will have Finder, Minder, and Grinder set up by default. To add a new role select the "New Record" button in the top righthand corner of the screen.

Setting the rates:

Once you have your Income Roles Defined you will need to allocate the percentage of your income being associated with that role. To do this you will want to select the accounting menu on your matter overview screen and go to "Income Split"

Here you will allocate a role, participant, and split percentage. This will cause any invoices processed on or after that day to reflect your income split settings.

The sum of your split percentage must equal 100% or 0%

Setting income split start and end dates:

The start and end dates on the income split screen indicate the date range during which your selections apply. You must choose a start date for each income split but the end date us optional. It's important to keep in mind that you cannot set your income split end date so that there is a period in which your income split percentage won't be 100%. See the examples below:

INCORRECT

This is incorrect because the dates and percentages indicated will leave a period from 4/19/2015- 4/30/15 where the split percentage would be 50%

CORRECT

Here you're telling the program that after your current finder stops collecting commission a new finder will take their place.

Now invoice and process payments as usual. When you're ready to look at the totals for your income split you can do so by going to Reports>Accounting Reports>Income Split.
