Merge Fields Still Show in Document After Assembly

If after assembling (generating) a document your still see some merge fields between double square brackets then it means that the document assembly engine did not detect these fields. This is generally caused by one or both of the following scenarios:

  1. You have some single square brackets elsewhere in the text.  Remove or replace these square brackets with another character.
  2. Microsoft Word has saved some hidden "undo data" which contains square brackets.  This can happen if you delete or undo changes in text which contains merge fields.  The only way to properly fix this is to start with a blank document and recreate the template.  We also recommend using Microsoft Word merge fields rather than the double-square bracket syntax.

REPEAT Fields don't work in HotDocs

Make sure you are not entering the REPEAT syntax into the field list in the HotDocs template in Admin.  Only enter the data source for the repeat.  See Uploading HotDocs Templates into Actionstep
