Users can't see workflows or custom data

This is probably due to system role/system object permission settings.  See Workflow Troubleshooting.

Users can't export or print from lists

You need to set the system object permissions for the system role.  See System Object Permissions

How can I open links in new tabs?

Click on your name in the top panel of the main screen and open the My Profile menu and set your preferences the the "Multi-browser tab/window" section.
